      My dear friends, in this article we will know more about Adjective and it's types ... In last article we acquired the knowledge about Pronoun and it's types.  Let's commence the topic.

             First of all, we will see what Adjective is.

Definition of Adjective:- The word which is used to provide more information about noun, is called Adjective. 
Ex.
1) The Tajmahal is a historical monument of India.
2) She is very cute.

 There are 2 types of Adjective according to their placement in the sentence.
1) Attributive Adjectives
2) Predicative Adjectives



1) Attributive Adjectives:- The adjectives which comes before name in the sentence, are called Attributive Adjectives.
Example:- 
1) He is a strong boy.
2) They read an interesting book.
    In above sentences, adjectives "strong" and "interesting" comes before noun in the sentence. So they are Attributive Adjectives.

2) Predicative Adjectives:- The adjectives whch comes after name in the sentence, are called Attributive Adjectives.
1) The boy is strong.
2) The book is very interesting.
  In above sentences, the Adjectives "strong" and "interesting" comes after noun in the sentence, so these adjectives are Predicative Adjectives.

There are 9 types of Adjective.


1) Adjectives of Quality

2) Adjectives of Quantity
3) Adjectives of Number
4) Demonstrative Adjectives
5) Distributive Adjectives
6) Interrogative Adjectives
7) Possessive Adjectives
8) Emphasizing Adjectives
9) Exclamatory Adjectives

1)  Adjectives of Quality:- The Adjectives which are used to indicate quality of person, place or thing, are called  Adjectives of Quality.

Examples:- 
1) Edison was an intelligent scientist.
2) Shahrukh khan is a muscular actor.

Good, bad, honest, coward, swift, stingy, beautiful, ugly, soft, rough, attractive, boring etc.

Note:- Adjectives are also formed after applying "- ly"  suffix to noun.
Examples:
Manly, womanly etc 


2) Adjectives of Quantity:- The word which indicates the quantity of uncountable nouns, is called Adjectives of Quantity.
Example:- 
1)There was enough water in the tank.
2)He consumed all chocolates.
   In above sentences, "enough" and "all" these words shows the quantity but it's not countable, so it's called Adjectives of Quantity.

  Few, half, sufficient, great, whole, no, any, some, slight etc. are some examples of it.

3) Adjectives of Numbers:- The adjectives which indicates definite and indefinite cardinals(denotes the number) and ordinals( denotes the sequence)  are called Adjectives of Numbers.

Note:- Adjectives of Numbers only matters when the noun follows it must be countable.
  

Examples:-
1) I have four cars.( Cordinals)
2) it's a fourth generation of him.(ordinals)

  One, two, three, four (Cordinals)
  First, second, third, fourth (ordinals)
       These are examples of 
Adjectives of Numbers.

There are 3 kinds of Adjectives of Numbers.
1) Definite number
Examples:- one, two, three,....fourteen etc.

2) Indefinite number
Examples:- first, second, third,..... Fourteenth etc.

3) Distributive number
Example:- Each, either, every, neither etc.
Note:- 1)"some" is used only in affirmative sentences.
Example:-:There is some water in the tank.
2) "any" is used in negative sentences.
Example:- There is not any water in the tank.

4) Demonstrative Adjectives:- The word which indicates any object or person, is called as Demonstrative Adjectives.
Ex. This, that, these those, such etc. are examples of  Demonstrative Adjectives.

Examples:- 
1) This place is very spectacular.
2) That house is hers.
3) These sheep are mine.
4) Those pencils are yours.

Note:- Noun must be after these words to become Demonstrative Adjectives.
If there is no noun, they are Demonstrative Pronouns.
Example:- 
1) This place is mine.
2) This is my place.

     In first example, "This" is the Demonstrative Adjective.
And in second example, "This" is the Demonstrative Pronoun.

5) Interrogative Adjectives:- If "what, which, and whose"  are used with noun to question, then it is called Interrogative Adjectives.

Examples:-
1) what topic did you choose for presentation?
2)whose ball is it?
3)Which movie do you like the most?
    In the above sentences, " what, which, whose" are the words nouns come just after these. That's why they are Interrogative Adjectives.


6) Distributive Adjectives:- The word which is used to divide person, things or places, is called as Distributive Adjectives.
Examples:- Each, Either, Neither, Every these are Distributive Adjectives.
Examples:
1) Every player must exercise everyday.
2) Each of the students is present in the         school.
3) Neither of these girls are beautiful.
4) Either of the accused is culprit.


7) Possessive Adjectives:- If the possessive pronouns are used before nouns to indicate possession, then they are called as Possessive Adjectives.
Examples:-
1) This is my company.
2) This is your pen.
3) This is her bag 
4) This is their farm.
5) This is our building.
6) This is his property.

8) Emphasizing Adjectives:- The word which is used to emphasize on noun, is called Emphasizing Adjective.

Ex. The words like Own and Very are used to emphasize on noun, so they are called as Emphasizing Adjectives.
Examples:- 
1) It is the very mobile which I had.
2) It's my own fault.


9) Exclamatory Adjectives:- If we use what before name in an Exclamatory sentence, then it's called Exclamatory Adjective.
Example:- 
1) What a shot!
2) What an idea!
